About me
Most people in the world of wine can remember that special moment; you may be casually drinking with friends, have saved up for a special bottle with an even more special person or you’re at a wine event where you’re overwhelmed with a feeling of sheer pleasure. My moment came when I had just bought for my girlfriend (now wife!) a very special bottle of Burgundy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, back when it was affordable for the average person. Even though she suffered with lead poisoning from the lead cap that sealed it, I couldn’t stop thinking about how a wine that smelled of horse manure could taste so sublime. My obsession with wine started then – 25 years ago.
At the time I was an Engineer that had recently relocated from the UK to Montreal, Canada. I took a University Course at UC Davis on Wine Making and Viticulture and then decided to try and make my own wine. After trying to make wine from juice, I made friends in the Italian community of Montreal and started making wine from imported Californian grapes. This then led to becoming a founding board member of the Amateur Vinifacateurs au Quebec (AVAQ) where some of the greatest pleasures I have had were helping friends harvest and crush their grapes, turn them into wine or even make wine for many friends weddings. I became a wine tourist; traveling to wine regions and countries in between work related business travel. My daughter is named Sienna in remembrance of a visit to Siena and Montalcino; where life and time stand still while you look over rolling hills while drinking a bottle of Brunello.
Which has now brought me full circle into sharing my knowledge and passion with helping you in your journey. I am a great believer in continuous education. I am Wine and Spirit Education Trust WSET2 and WSET3 qualified, both with a Distinction.
